Rev. Peter Rickman has 20 years of impressive and varied experience in the Anglican Church of New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the USA. He has worked as a community and youth worker, counsellor, teacher, prison and school chaplain, vicar and, prior to returning to St Paul's, he was Dean of the Waikato Cathedral Church of St Peter. Peter was St Paul's Chaplain for four years, from 2001 to 2004, before he returned to Parish Ministry in the United Kingdom. In his role as Waikato Cathedral Dean, he had extensive management and leadership experience, working with over 200 volunteers and 10 employees, assisting the homeless and mentally ill, providing outreach services programme for youth, the elderly and the vulnerable, while overseeing the Cathedral - a church that plays a central role in the life of the Anglican Church in the Waikato. Outside the church, as a first aid instructor, Peter has had experience as a community ambulance first responder, is an active leader in Hamilton Sea Scouts as an instructor in kayaking and sailing and is a qualified PADI scuba dive instructor. Articulate and engaging, Peter relates comfortably and easily to young people and has strong pastoral care and guidance skills.

Sir David Moxon KNZM, KStJ, MMCM ,has been an Anglican bishop from 1993, as bishop of Waikato and later as the Archbishop of the New Zealand Dioceses. He served as the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Representative to The Holy See in Rome from 2013 to 2017. David is the Priory Dean of the Order of St John for Aotearoa New Zealand.David is an honorary fellow of St Peter’s College Oxford and a member of the board of trustees of St Paul’s Collegiate School where he began his interest in SIMM.

Jill has played a key role in SIMM being established. Her father was Arthur Hugh Fletcher ,who built the Fauabu Hospital on Malaita Island in the Solomon Islands in the early 1930’s, with assistance from local labour. In 2016 she ,along with her sister , and her eldest son, visited Fauabu to see if any of the hospital was still standing.They were pleasantly surprised to find some of the original buildings were still in use ,along with additional, newer buildings. However, it had been downgraded to a Rural Health Clinic status. The clinic served a surrounding area with a population of 16,000,and a need was recognised to upgrade it back to a hospital status. With help from Rev Peter Rickman , the trust was formed to help with an upgrade. Joining Rev Peter and Jill as founding trustees were several other close supporters familiar with the hospital.

Bruce became involved with the trust through being married to Jill Bindon. Having been to Fauabu Hospital several times and seen their need, he is passionate about the trust’s work. His career was as a partner in a major accounting/consulting firm ,followed by directorships and trusteeships of many companies, NGO , and community trusts. In addition to his trustee role ,he acts as secretary of the trust board.

Through our work with ACOM at Fauabu Clinic in Malaita Province we met SurfAid, an international development organisation, with a mission to "Improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of remote communities connected to us through surfing." SurfAid was founded in New Zealand and now has affiliates in Australia and the USA. They have been operating programs in Indonesia for over 20 years and began in Solomon Islands in 2019. They are interested in supporting rural health clinics, so in 2023 we entered into a partnership to progress work together in Fauabu. This is a great opportunity for both our organisations and will amplify the impacts SIMM can have for the Faubu communities.

Grandson of Arthur Hugh Fletcher who worked for the Melanesian Mission in the Solomon Islands from 1929 to the outbreak of World War 2. In 1931 he started work on a Hospital in Fauaba which took about five years to complete.In 2016 Matt's Mother, Jill Bindon and Aunt Anita Seccombe, along with himself, undertook a journey to the Solomon Islands to visit Fauabu. Their goal was to see what my Grandfather had built and if there was anything still there today. We found there was a Rural Health Clinic still operating out of some of the original buildings from the 1930s.In 2023 they returned to the Solomon Islands along with other members of SIMM to visit Fauaba. During this trip, they also returned the ashes of Matt's Uncle, The Rev’d Canon David H. V. Bindon. QSM. JP. David had worked in the Solomon Islands assisting with the rebuild of Selwyn College.

Dr Roger Brown was born in 1956. He is married to Kathy and they have 4 children and 7 grandchildren. He has been a medical practitioner for 43 years working in General Practice and Emergency Medical Care. He and Kathy recently returned from working in Outback Australia for 7 years where they worked in Aboriginal Health. Roger and Kathy and their 4 children lived in Munda, in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands for 5 years in the 1990’s. Roger was Medical Superintendent of Helena Goldie Hospital. Roger is now semi-retired. He works as a Rural Generalist Doctor in Outback Australia for a few weeks at a time, and then goes back home to Hamilton, NZ where he enjoys spending time with family and friends, working in their large garden, cycling and paddleboarding. They attend The Village Church in Horsham Downs.

Roy Oeta is a registered nurse working in the remote islands of Solomon Islands. Before joining the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) Roy worked in a medical capacity with various companies and organisations in the Solomon Islands such as Solomon Islands College of Higher Education, Solomon Islands Brewery Ltd, Goodridge Mining Company, Solomon Islands Red Cross Society, SI Medical Commission, Sports Medicine and SI St John Ambulance. Roy brings a wealth of experience in coordinating ACOM health services in the Solomon Islands including Vanuatu and part of New Caledonia since joining ACOM in September 2019 as Health Coordinator.

The Melanesian Church has been instrumental in education and health since the early 19th century. However, since the structural changes of the 1970s following independence, ACOM handed to the new Government many of its health and medical services with mixed results. Today a new era of partnership between ACOM, the government and NGO’s such as SIMM seeks to improve health services in the Solomon Islands through collaborative projects.

ACOM & SIMM are working together to help upgrade the Fauabu Clinic health facilities along with those at the St Claire Clinic in Taroaniara in the Diocese of Central Solomons in Central Islands Province. In 2023 SIMM and ACOM entered into a partnership with SurfAid to improve the health and wellbeing of these communities.

Roy believes ACOM and SIMM will extend this partnership to other dioceses of ACOM in the Solomon Islands including Vanuatu and part of New Caledonia in the future. It’s a privilege to work with SIMM trustees who bring a wide set of knowledge, skills and background for me to learn and build on. Roy looks forward to moving ACOM Health to new heights with SIMM, the SI Government, SurfAid and other stakeholders as partners.

Evan Morgans is an entrepreneur on an exciting journey to establish his own business after successfully leading the marketing function for one of New Zealand’s top technology companies. His career has been driven by a people-first approach, with a solid foundation in the information technology and protective services industries. Equipped with a “Swiss Army knife” skill set, Evan brings expertise in Marketing, Sales and Account Management, Product Management, and Scrum/Agile development methodologies, along with a strong aptitude for people leadership. Evan’s leadership style is uniquely shaped by his early military background which instilled discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking. He also holds a Business degree in Human Resource Management from Massey University (NZ), further enhancing his ability to lead teams, manage complex business environments, and foster growth in dynamic organizations. Recently, Evan joined the Solomon Islands Medical Mission (SIMM) as a trustee, driven by his passion for giving back. In this role, he aims to help raise the charity’s profile and deliver better health outcomes for the people of the Solomon Islands. With a career that blends corporate leadership, entrepreneurial ambition, and a commitment to service, Evan is dedicated to making a positive and lasting impact.
